PURPOSE

Organizations need a structured framework to steer innovation initiatives from the first idea to successful scaling. The Innovation Blueprint prevents promising ideas from getting stuck in individual phases or critical steps from being skipped. It creates a shared understanding of the entire innovation process and ensures clear handoffs between phases.

HOW TO USE

First, the entire innovation process is divided into clearly defined phases, typically from idea generation through validation and prototyping to piloting and scaling. For each phase, activities, milestones, and decision criteria (stage gates) are defined. Teams assign their innovation projects to the respective phases and work through the defined steps systematically.

WHAT IT IS

The Innovation Blueprint is an end-to-end framework that maps the complete innovation process as a coherent system. It consists of sequential phases with defined inputs, activities, outputs, and decision points. Typical components include idea generation, concept validation, prototyping, market testing, implementation, and scaling.

EXAMPLE

Example: You lead an innovation team at an insurance company and need to bring a new digital claims reporting service from idea to market launch. Using the Innovation Blueprint, you structure the entire process into clear phases โ€” from idea validation through prototyping to scaling โ€” and ensure that no critical step is skipped.
