Lightning Decision Jam (LDJ)
Structured workshop format for rapid prioritization of problems and solutions.
PURPOSE
Many workshops end without clear results because discussions go in circles or are dominated by individual voices. The Lightning Decision Jam offers a fast, structured format that goes from problems to prioritized, actionable solutions in under one hour. It ensures all voices are heard and the team leaves with concrete next steps.
HOW TO USE
In eight steps, problems are first collected, then prioritized via dot voting, the main problem is reframed into solutions, and these are also prioritized via dot voting. Each step has a fixed time limit, and discussions are deliberately minimized in favor of silent, individual work. In the end, the team has concrete, prioritized actions that can be implemented immediately.
WHAT IT IS
The Lightning Decision Jam (LDJ) is a structured workshop format developed by AJ&Smart that takes teams from problems to prioritized solutions in under 60 minutes. It uses silent idea generation, dot voting, and time-boxing as core elements. The format is designed for four to eight participants and requires a facilitator to guide the process.
EXAMPLE
Example: Your marketing team meets for the quarterly kickoff and there are many problems — from poor lead quality to lack of alignment with sales to outdated tools. In 45 minutes, you go through the Lightning Decision Jam: write down problems, prioritize via dot voting, generate solutions, and define concrete experiments.
