Business Model You
Personal adaptation of the Business Model Canvas for career planning.
PURPOSE
Business Model You helps individuals analyze and develop their professional situation and career like a business model. It addresses the problem that many people cannot clearly articulate their professional strengths, resources, and value propositions. This way, personal career planning becomes structured and personal change processes become tangible.
HOW TO USE
Fill out the canvas from a first-person perspective: Who are your customers (employers, clients)? What is your personal value proposition? What key resources and key activities do you bring? Use the tool for career decisions, professional reorientation, or to prepare for job interviews. Create multiple variants to compare different career paths.
WHAT IT IS
Business Model You is a personal adaptation of the Business Model Canvas, developed by Tim Clark, Alexander Osterwalder, and Yves Pigneur. It transfers the nine building blocks of the Business Model Canvas to the individual level, where the person is viewed as a business. The canvas includes personal key resources, key activities, value proposition, customer relationships, channels, customer segments, costs, and revenues.
EXAMPLE
Example: After ten years as a software developer, you are at a career crossroads and use Business Model You to visualize your key resources (technical skills, network), your channels (LinkedIn, conferences), and your personal value proposition on a single page. You realize that your strongest asset is not coding, but your ability to mediate between technology and business.
