Impact Innovation Canvas
Canvas for developing impact-oriented innovations: Problem-Impact-Approach-Implementation.
PURPOSE
The Impact Innovation Canvas helps teams and organizations develop innovations that are not only economically viable but also socially impactful. It bridges the gap between problem analysis and the concrete implementation of impact-oriented ideas. The tool is particularly relevant for social enterprises, NGOs, and organizations that want to integrate impact orientation into their innovation processes.
HOW TO USE
The canvas is worked through from left to right: First, the social problem is defined, then the desired impact is described. Building on this, the solution approach is developed and implementation is planned. For each field, concrete, measurable statements are formulated to make the impact chain from problem through solution to impact traceable.
WHAT IT IS
The Impact Innovation Canvas is a visual planning tool with a clear impact logic along the chain of Problem, Impact, Approach, and Implementation. It combines elements from the Business Model Canvas with impact models from the social impact sector. The canvas typically contains fields for problem definition, target audience, desired impact, solution approach, activities, and success indicators.
EXAMPLE
Example: You want to develop a solution to water scarcity in rural regions with your social enterprise. With the Impact Innovation Canvas, you connect the social problem with a viable business approach and define measurable impact indicators such as the number of households supplied.
