PURPOSE

Without a systematic overview of all processes in an organization, it is difficult to identify optimization opportunities and clearly assign responsibilities. The Process Landscape creates this overview and maps the interplay of core, support, and management processes. It helps the organization understand its value creation holistically and improve it in a targeted manner.

HOW TO USE

The team identifies and categorizes all essential processes of the organization into three groups: core processes, support processes, and management processes. These are arranged in a visual overview and connected with their dependencies. The process landscape is regularly updated and serves as the basis for process optimization and organizational development.

WHAT IT IS

The Process Landscape, also called process map, is a visual framework for representing all relevant business processes of an organization. It typically distinguishes three levels: core processes (value-creating), support processes (enabling), and management processes (governing). The format provides a compact overall overview and serves as an entry point for more detailed process analyses.

EXAMPLE

Example: Your mechanical engineering company has grown organically over 30 years and nobody has an overview of what processes actually exist and who is responsible for them. The Process Landscape visualizes all core, support, and management processes on a single page. You discover that three departments independently run the same quality inspection process.
