PURPOSE

The Social Change Wheel 2.0 Toolkit helps change agents reflect on their change strategy from different angles and deliberately combine different engagement approaches. It overcomes the tendency to rely on a single change approach and promotes a multi-focal strategy. The framework is particularly valuable for complex societal or organizational transformations.

HOW TO USE

The toolkit is used for reflection and strategic planning of change processes. Different change approaches are identified on the wheel and evaluated for their relevance to the current situation. Teams analyze which approaches they already use and which they should add. From this, a multi-focal change strategy is developed that combines different levers.

WHAT IT IS

The Social Change Wheel 2.0 is a reflection framework that visualizes different change and engagement approaches on a wheel. It distinguishes multiple dimensions of change, from individual awareness through collective action to structural changes. The toolkit contains the framework itself as well as reflection questions and planning aids for developing a multi-focal strategy.

EXAMPLE

Example: You are a program director at a foundation promoting social participation and notice that your projects only scratch the surface. With the Social Change Wheel 2.0, you reflect on different change approaches (grassroots, policy, culture) and develop a multi-focal strategy.
