Storyboard Template
Visual storytelling of user flows and scenarios.
PURPOSE
Abstract concepts and user flows are hard to communicate and evaluate when they only exist as text or flow charts. The Storyboard Template makes user experiences tangible and emotionally relatable through visual storytelling. It helps teams test design ideas early and identify weaknesses in the user experience.
HOW TO USE
You first define the scenario and the acting persona, then draw the individual steps of the user journey in sequential panels. Each panel contains a simple sketch and a brief description of the situation. The storyboard is then discussed with the team or users to gather feedback.
WHAT IT IS
The Storyboard Template is a template for visually depicting user scenarios in sequential panels, similar to a comic strip. It typically consists of 6-8 panels, each showing one step in the user interaction. The format originally comes from the film industry and has been adapted for UX design and service design.
EXAMPLE
Example: You're designing a telemedicine app and need to show the stakeholder committee how a patient gets from symptom search to video consultation. With the Storyboard Template, you draw six panels that visually tell the complete user flow. Even the non-technical board members immediately understand how the app works.
