PURPOSE

Teams often start projects without explicitly aligning on goals, resources, and risks, which leads to misunderstandings and conflicts. The Team Alignment Map creates clarity and shared understanding of the most important parameters before the project begins. You prevent divergent expectations from only becoming visible during the project.

HOW TO USE

The team fills out the map together in a workshop, clarifying four areas: joint objectives, key resources, open risks, and joint activities. Different viewpoints are discussed until genuine consensus is reached. The completed map is regularly reviewed and updated when conditions change.

WHAT IT IS

The Team Alignment Map is a canvas format by Strategyzer that visually represents the four most important alignment areas of a team. It includes the fields Joint Objectives, Joint Resources, Joint Risks, and Joint Activities. The tool is suitable both for project kick-offs and for regular alignment checks in ongoing projects.

EXAMPLE

Example: Your project team consists of members from three different departments, each with different expectations for the project. Using the Team Alignment Map, you clarify together: What is our shared goal? What resources does each person bring? What risks do we see? In the process, you discover that the IT department has completely different success criteria than marketing.
