Change Canvas
Visualizes change projects with goals, stakeholders, and leadership.
PURPOSE
The Change Canvas is used to holistically plan change projects and capture all relevant dimensions of a change initiative at a glance. It solves the problem that change projects are often planned in a fragmented manner and important aspects like stakeholder management, communication, or leadership behavior are considered too late. This creates a shared picture of the change initiative that serves as orientation for all involved.
HOW TO USE
Fill out the canvas with the change team or leadership group. Start with the reason for and goal of the change and work through the fields: Who is affected? Who leads the change? What measures are needed? How is communication handled? What risks exist? Use the canvas as a living document that is updated throughout the entire change process and used as a steering instrument.
WHAT IT IS
The Change Canvas is a visual planning tool for change projects that summarizes all essential dimensions of a change initiative on a single page. It typically includes fields for the change trigger, vision, stakeholders, leadership, communication, measures, resources, risks, and success criteria. The canvas combines elements of various change management approaches in a compact, visual format.
EXAMPLE
Example: You are planning the introduction of a new CRM system in a sales team of 200 people and use the Change Canvas to visualize the vision (unified customer view), the affected stakeholders (sales, IT, customer service), the risks (data migration, adoption), the leadership strategy, and the communication plan on a single page. This gives you a comprehensive overview for the steering committee.
