PURPOSE

The Remote Work Team Canvas helps distributed teams proactively address the particular challenges of remote work and establish clear agreements. It prevents the typical problems of remote teams such as unclear expectations, communication gaps, and lack of belonging. The tool is particularly valuable when introducing remote work or when existing remote teams want to improve their collaboration.

HOW TO USE

The canvas is filled out together in a virtual team workshop. The team clarifies expectations for availability, response times, and working hours. Communication rules are defined for different situations, such as synchronous vs. asynchronous communication. Ways of working for collaboration, documentation, and social interaction are agreed and regularly reviewed.

WHAT IT IS

The Remote Work Team Canvas is a canvas tool specifically developed for the challenges of distributed teams. It contains fields for availability expectations, communication rules, preferred tools, meeting formats, and social rituals. The canvas creates a documented agreement serving as a shared foundation for remote collaboration.

EXAMPLE

Example: Your team is permanently switching to 80% remote work post-pandemic and there are uncertainties about availability and collaboration. With the Remote Work Team Canvas, you clarify core working hours, communication tools (Slack for quick things, Zoom for meetings), documentation rules, and how you maintain team cohesion.
